My name is Lein (officially Marjolein), and I am the creator and face behind the Sand & Lava concept. You'll find more about me later, but first, I'd love to share the philosophy behind Sand & Lava.

Philosophy of Sand & Lava (Updated October 14, 2024):
Sand & Lava is not your average website. It's an experimental playground, a concept that can go in any direction, and an expression of my personal style and way of life. Sand & Lava is always in motion, just like the sea and life itself.

Currently, the website is undergoing renovations to become more of an inspiration hub. The webshop has been closed, and almost the entire site has been translated into English. For a short time, you can still shop second-hand and new second-chance items on Sand & Lava Vinted Pro, which were previously available in the webshop. The sale there is expected to end by November 1. I will continue private sales through my personal Vinted under the name "leinsbazar".

Creating the concept and sourcing products was a joy. However, balancing sales, administration, and inspiring content creation on the website and social media took more time than expected, leaving little time for other hobbies and passions. Time for choices, hence saying goodbye to the webshop part.

Where or how Sand & Lava will evolve as a project, I don't know. It’s a journey and a process. I love inspiring in style, showing that a boho island vibe style is for everyone, regardless of size or age. I used to love creating paper dolls, and now I enjoy creating AI images. The beauty of AI is that the clothes aren't specifically for sale anywhere. It’s more about "what do you have in your closet that can create a similar outfit?" Taking you along on my journey of becoming more sustainable and conscious, without pointing fingers and without expecting perfection from anyone. To me, being more sustainable and conscious is not about perfection, but about awareness.

I'm not vegan, but I mostly eat whole food plant-based. And yes, although I've been inspired by a whole legion of minimalists on YouTube for years, my wardrobes are still overflowing. Work in progress.

I am 53 and have great admiration for the younger generations. They are actually the main source of inspiration for Sand & Lava. They teach us that you don’t have to do just one thing, that not everything revolves around money. You don't have to fit yourself and your projects into boxes. Everything can fall under the Sand & Lava umbrella. You should base your work on your core values and talents.

About Me:
First, the facts… Lein (Marjolein), 53, I'm an independent entrepreneur in children's and women's fashion since 2003. I've been with the love of my life, Ries (Richard), for 34 years, and I’m the mother of a wonderful adult daughter. We live in Bellingwolde, The Netherlands for 21 years now. I have a background in business support and management roles in the corporate world. I am creative, a true Gemini, and I love dancing, yoga, cooking, reading, and traveling. I spend as much time as possible on islands, feet in the sand. Although, I’m not averse to city trips or sunny places that aren’t on an island😉 All that travel is fantastic for the soul and many other things, but yes, not so great for the environment. I am aware of this. Like many people, the dream is a permanent spot in the sun, preferably on an island. And to leave it as little as possible. I haven't found the right island yet, so the search continues. I don’t like the cold. I only thaw above 25 degrees😬😁.

Sand & Lava is probably my most personal project to date, it is very close to who I am right now, what I want to do, and what I stand for. The webshop was just the start of everything I want to do, learn, and experience.
